NAVFone is developed by the Singapore software developer
- Asia GIS Pte Ltd (Agis) which can transform a mobile device
into a smart tool for location-finder. Once installed into
a Symbian based mobile phone, the directory search or route
planning is just a click away.
The software comprise of comprehensive directory information,
routing engine, Bluetooth connection to GPS for navigation
and the state-of-the-art location-aware technology that
enable the software to locate real-time positioning.
With Agis proprietary positioning technology- GprX
, embbed into NAVFone, one can locate his current position
or friends via the software and find nearby amenities on
the map anywhere, anytime. The accuracy ranges from 50m-200m
depending on the density of the network coverage; much more
accurate than standard cell solution.
In January 2007, Nokia has publicly announced that NAVFone
Pro or otherwise known as Asia Map will be pre-bundled in
the first Nokia GPS phone model – N95; for sales launch
in Asia Pacifica countries. With the in-built GPS in the
mobile device, the software will allow the user navigate
from one place to another hassle free. For the start, the
user may choose to activate one city map from the mini-SD
card and use the fully features of the software for 60 days.
Thereafter, user will need to pay for a one-time licensing
fee if he wants to continue in using the full features of
the software. Else the user may continue to use the software
as directory search tool. Asia GIS will provide various
Asia countries and city-centric maps for the software. The
key countries include Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam,
Thailand and Philippine. Beyond the capability of being
the location finder and navigating tool, one can locate
friend's whereabout using the NAVFone Pro on a permission
basis.
